The recently published results of the 2022 Croner Animation and Visual Effects Survey shows noteworthy trends in compensation from the past year.

Croner’s annual report provides market data of compensation for jobs specific to the production of animation and visual effects. Highlights from the recent results include:

  • In the United States, compensation for positions in the animation and visual effects industry grew across all compensation elements for production leadership / operations management, individual contributor and support levels. Growth for production leadership / operations management levels was driven by material increases in short- and long-term incentives.  Growth for individual contributors was more moderate. Growth for support levels was driven by material increases in base salary.
  • In Canada, compensation also grew across all compensation elements for production leadership /operations management, individual contributor and support levels. Growth for production leadership / operations management and for support levels was driven by material increases in base salary.  Growth for individual contributors was more moderate.
  • Animation Supervisor and Senior / Lead Layout Artist were the pipeline positions in the U.S. with the most growth in base salary from 2021 to 2022.

The annual Croner Animation and Visual Effects Survey is the trusted industry resource specific to jobs that produce animation and visual effects for film, television and software games in the U.S. and Canada. It provides compensation data on 311 benchmark animation and visual effects positions in the U.S. and Canada.

The 2022 Report provides compensation data for 34 positions in Canada, including roles in Animation, Effects/Live Action, Post Production, Producing, Story/Visual Development, Technical/Shot Production, Technology Systems Support and G&A.
