Our Story
1978
Mel Croner Founds The Croner Company
Mel and business partner Pete Culver start The Croner Company to provide strategic management, organizational design and compensation advisory services focusing on financial services, real estate and healthcare.
1982
The Croner Company Produces Our First Compensation Survey
The Croner Company conducts our first survey and produces a benchmarking report of hospital-based physician pay.
1989
Hali Croner Joins the Firm, Launches Software Games Survey
Hali joins the firm as a trained compensation analyst. She launches the Croner Software Games Survey in collaboration with leading software games companies. Today, this annual survey continues to deliver robust industry data.
1996
Croner Establishes Our First Digital Content and Technology Survey
The Croner Company recognizes a growing need for compensation data for emerging jobs and initiates the Digital Content and Technology Survey. This survey has become the largest in our suite of industry-specific benchmarking surveys, both in number of participants and jobs reported.
1998
Leadership Torch Passes to Hali
Hali Croner becomes President and CEO. As a nationally recognized expert in compensation, Hali focuses on excellence in data-driven solutions, client service and value.
2002
The Croner Company Forms Partnership with C2HR (formerly CTHRA)
Croner partners for the first time with Content & Connectivity Human Resources (C2HR) to steward industry benchmark surveys of cable content developers and connectivity providers. This partnership continues today.
2007
Expansion Crosses International Boundaries
In response to demands for global data, The Croner Company launches the Croner Software Games Survey – International. Today, we conduct three different annual industry-specific surveys for international markets.
2016
Service Spreads to Foundations, Nonprofits and Mission-Driven Organizations
The Croner Company acquires the Lasnik-Broida Compensation Survey of Foundations from Elaine Lasnik-Broida. As a result of our experience and success in this sector, The Croner Company becomes recognized as a premier provider for data, compensation solutions and advisory services to America’s leading grantmaking organizations.
2019
The Croner Team Grows to Meet Demand
The Croner Company moves into a new headquarters office in San Rafael. Croner adds consulting staff in multiple U.S. regions and expands its survey sales team to London and Paris.
2022
Croner Survey Participation Sets A Record
For the first time, survey participation in Croner’s annual benchmark surveys exceeds 500 participant corporations and organizations.
